A Real Plant-Based Burger
No animal meat…No fake meat…
Just plants!
Weather your’e vegetarian, looking for a meatless Monday meal, or just trying to incorporate more plants into your diet, this burger is an easy introduction to plant-based eating! Spruce it up with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 1 (19oz) can black beans; drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup Panko or bread crumbs
- 1 tbs tomato paste
- 1/4 yellow onion; minced
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika or smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Pinch of crushed red pepper (to taste)
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
Method:
- Mash black beans with a masher or fork
- Add the egg and mix well
- Slowly add the rest of your ingredients starting with onions, Panko, hemp hearts, tomato paste and spices
- Mix well until you have a “meat like” consistency and can form patties
If it is too dry, slowly add tomato paste & if it is too wet, slowly add Panko
- Form patties (makes 4)
- Pre-heat pan on med-high heat; once hot, cook patties for 5-7 minutes on each side
Serve on a whole grain or gluten-free bun, lettuce or portobello mushroom bun & enjoy a meatless burger!
